Testimonials we have received from previous customers.

What a wonderful week! The walks were challenging and exhilirating. The scenery beautiful and the food superb.

Lorenzo is the perfect guide. His passion for and knowledge of the countryside ensured that every day was packed full of interest.

We love Italy and the people. This was our seventh visit. We strongly recommend Imperia and the Riviera dei Fouri to you. You will not be disappointed.

As first time visitors to Italy, and somewhat nervous travellers, we were delighted to be met by Lorenzo at the Railway station, and taken first to eat at a nearby pizzeria, and then whisked off to our excellent accommodation just above the village of Poggi.

Lorenzo had a whole spectrum of walks available, and matched the walk each day to what he thought would be our capabilities. The weather was extremely hot, which slowed our progress, but always he could find a shady tree under which we sat for lunch, and ate wonderful locally cooked pies and pizzas.

Perhaps the most enjoyable walk was the most adventurous, though not the longest, in which, after a long drive, the car was parked at a height of 1600m, and we inched our way along the side of a wooded cliff and through a tiny gap between rocks at the Gully of incisa, into France, where we walked a further mile or so before returning by another small pass, the Valetta Pass (1900m) into Italy. Parts of the track were quite exposed, but always at the most exposed parts, one would find a few metres of cable to hold on to, a simpler version of the ferrata which is there on the more advanced routes.

All walks included points of interest in which we encountered isolated farmsteads, deserted churches or (nearly every day) stunning mountain villages, perched on rocky outcrops, with houses built somehow on tiny streets which ran in and out of one another, always with a piazza, where the local villagers were relaxing, and a medieval church.

Flora and fauna were abundant: butterflies in their hundreds with dozens of different species. Lizards noisily scurrying through the undergrowth, the occasional gecko, a three foot long snake, and one of us actually saw a wildcat disappearing amongst the rocks. Plant life ranged from the beautiful bougainvillea in the valleys, past olive groves and vineyards, to deciduous trees higher up. There were bushes of wild heather four feet high, wild roses and sweet peas, and we saw just one wild orchid in flower two or three weeks later than most of its companions.

Lorenzo was helpful in taking us to the supermarket (we were self-catering) and in guiding us to the best eating places. And the food was good. It was very good! And almost every day we had views of the sea, and the amazing Italian coast line. Bene, benissimo!

We can warmly recommend Walking Liguria for excellent walks, lovely food, an expert guide, and the beautiful Italian landscape. We hope to go again!

Walking in Liguria with Lorenzo is a unique experience. From being led through unspoilt undergrowth following our intrepid guide with his machete, and being presented with views of Medieval villages that defy gravity, to challenging Mountain Hikes that delight, and exhaust, but reward with stunning scenary with almost every breath. Add on coastal walks that fright and excite, and in contrast, wooded walks and can and do calm the soul, this is what on can expect on his walks. You will be entertainned by tales from the past of mysterious characters, folk lore, local history, geography, flora and fauna, all delivered in perfect English with self-depricating humour.

And if you are wanting a cave to shelter in, or a secret pool in which to swim, they seem to appear by magic... Lorenzo's local knowledge is infinite. At the end of the day, he can direct you, according to your mood, to a bar where you can rub shoulders with the locals, or sip a sophisticated cocktail on the Italian Riverira, or eat in a rustic trattoria, or dine in a gourmet restuarant. My friends and I have had two wonderful holidays with him this year, and are already planning trips for next. One seriously vigorous hiking, and the other a Gastro-walking Tour, and if possible, more of what we have already thoroughly enjoyed in lovely Liguria.

Our family had a wonderful stay in Liguria at the end of October. Unfortunately it was a brief stay but the welcome was warm and the scenery was stunning. We spent one afternoon exploring the old town of Imperia with Lorenzo, and he was able to point out unusual and interesting features which you might otherwise miss.

The following day, after a short drive into the mountains, we did a breathtaking walk. Lorenzo is an expert on the local history, as well as having a extensive knowledge about the flora and fauna of the area. We passed several via ferrata's which I would have loved to climb, but it was not possible on this occasion - one to go back for. There is a good review of this walk, 'The Alpine Trail' on Lorenzo's web site.

The food in this region of Italy is in a class of its own. One restaurant not to be missed is Censin da Bea, Borgomaro. Although the restaurant is a short drive from Imperia it is well worth a visit. Set in an old olive mill, the atmosphere is unique with a working mill wheel which the staff are happy to set in motion. There is a huge variety of traditional Italian food, and the wine is all inclusive - make sure that Lorenzo drives just in case you should have one too many. If you visit this area, you really should visit this restaurant.

We thoroughly recommend a visit to this unspoilt region of Italy and Lorenzo is the perfect guide to show you around. He speaks impeccable English, and he will show you hidden treasures from this region that will add up to an unforgettable holiday.

Just a short note to thank you for everything you did for the four of us last week and to let you know just how much we enjoyed the experience. The guided walks were excellent and routes very well thought out and in particular the Alpine Trail was something special with it's varied and constantly changing surroundings and a walk I regard as the best I have done in Europe. In addition to the walking the food was also excellent and I now know why Italian food has the reputation it strongly deserves; the village of Poggi and it's surrounding villages offer the most spectacular views and a lot of interest e.g. village of the painted doors and village of the witches which we especially enjoyed. I will strongly recommend the area and guided walks to all friends and colleagues.

Thank you for everything and will be seeing you again soon.
